The Hidden Secret About
Pampas Grass Only A
Handful Of People Know.

When visiting some friends in their new home I noticed that the neighbour had a large display of Pampas Grass in the front garden.

I gave a little knowing nod towards it and smirked whilst asking if they had introduced themselves to the neighbours and been invited to dinner yet, I was met with looks of bewilderment from all in the room.

I did not believe that no one knew the secret code of pampas grass.

When I explained, none of them could believe that I knew the secret code of pampas grass!

"But they are in their 80's!" was the outcry. That answer only told me that it would put them in the perfect age bracket for the hidden code to be relevant back in the 1970's when it was its most popular.

This was not met with much enthusiasm, the follow up comment of "She told me they have lived here since houses were built in mid-sixties" did nothing to convince me that I was wrong, since clearly, they had planted the pampas grass themselves then!

The little know secret is that the presence of pampas grass in the front garden was a hidden code in plain view to those who part took in the alternative lifestyle of swinging.

The inference is that a knock on the door would not be unwelcome and could lead to an invite for dinner - and who knows where that might lead.

So like my friends, if you see a neighbour with pampas grass in their garden, you may not be able to look them in the eye.

As a bonus story, I was telling another innocent about this article when I was planning it. They looked at me with wide-eyed horror told me that never mind the neighbours it was his parents he may not be able to look in the eyes again...........

Please remember this was popular many years ago, I am not saying that everyone who has pampas grass in the garden now is part of this lifestyle, but I got you thinking about it!
